The drive was long and bumpy, but the exhausted dog simply collapsed onto a soft blanket, far too weak to even lift his heavy head.

At the clinic, veterinarians quickly assessed the heartbreaking extent of his physical trauma.

His fractured pelvis required strict cage rest and extremely delicate handling to heal properly without invasive surgery.

Meanwhile, soothing medicated baths were immediately started to calm his burning, inflamed skin.

For the first few weeks, Gigi remained incredibly withdrawn and guarded.

He would curl into a tight, defensive ball in the corner of his kennel, flinching whenever a compassionate vet tech reached in to change his fresh bandages. Every sudden movement reminded him of a past filled with neglect.

But slowly, the agonizing pain began to fade, replaced by the gentle comfort of regular meals and warm, safe beds.

With his tick bite fever successfully treated thanks to an outpouring of community donations, his true, gentle personality began to emerge. The barren, scaly patches of his skin slowly grew soft, fuzzy fur.

His once-defeated eyes started to brighten with genuine curiosity, and the heavy sadness that defined him in De Doorns began to wash away.

The rescue team knew that fixing his broken body was only half the battle.
