A severely traumatized street dog collapsed outside a quiet home in Tunisia, his exhausted body bearing the harsh marks of a brutal city. Hunted by local authorities as part of a sweeping street-clearing operation, the desperate animal had nowhere left to run. He lay in the dust, trembling uncontrollably and crying out in absolute agony.
Betrayed by the very society he lived in, the terrified canine cowered in fear at the sound of approaching footsteps. Every sudden shadow reminded him of the collective danger that loomed over the city’s strays. He tightly shut his eyes, bracing himself for the worst as a figure slowly stepped out of the front door.
Raoudha Mansour, a local veterinarian who refuses to look away from these targeted souls, knelt gently beside the broken creature. She murmured soft, reassuring words, slowly extending her experienced hands toward the dog’s defensive, trembling frame. As her fingers finally brushed against his matted fur, the terrified pup flinched violently…

Raoudha did not just bring this single broken dog inside; she welcomed him into a massive, life-saving sanctuary.
Since 2007, the dedicated veterinarian has completely transformed her private residence into a permanent safe haven for the city’s most vulnerable animals. At any given time, her bustling home shelters up to 150 cats and 25 dogs, many of whom require special medical needs.
In Tunisia, homeless animals face a grim reality of being eliminated in collective, government-led sniping operations to control populations. Raoudha passionately fights back against this devastating approach with medicine, sterilization, and an unwavering layer of compassion.
For the newly rescued pup, his first few days indoors were filled with sheer confusion.
He would hide beneath tables, entirely unsure of the soft blankets and regular meals provided to him without any threat of violence. But under Raoudha’s constant medical care and gentle touch, his deep physical wounds slowly began to close.
As the weeks passed, his defensive posture melted away into a relaxed, trusting demeanor. He finally understood that he would never have to run for his life again.

To keep this massive sanctuary running, Raoudha relies heavily on her professional veterinary skills and occasional donations of food and medicine.
She personally ensures that every single animal in her care is fully vaccinated, sterilized, and safe from the dangers of the outside streets. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of severe trauma cases that arrive at her door, she views her grueling work as a profound privilege.
“Many people ask me how I can stand seeing difficult cases, but I would say I am very lucky to be able to treat them,” she explained.

Despite government promises of future mass vaccination efforts, the streets currently remain deeply unsafe for these forgotten animals. The volunteers continue to advocate for humane solutions, pushing back against the cruelty of the current system.
Raoudha’s home stands as a beacon of hope, proving that every stray deserves a chance at a peaceful life. Looking at the once-broken dog now sleeping soundly in her living room, she reaffirmed her lifelong mission. “These animals have a soul and they have a right to live with us.”
