On an otherwise ordinary day in Los Angeles County, an Amazon driver was navigating a busy delivery route when they spotted something entirely out of place. Sitting abandoned in the grass of a local public park was a tall, white laundry basket.
At the very bottom of the plastic bin lay a severely matted, motionless Yorkshire terrier. She was completely still, offering no sound or movement to draw attention to herself, fading into the background of the sprawling park.
Despite having a mountain of deliveries left to complete, the driver felt an undeniable urge to pull over and approach the basket. Peering over the edge, they saw the tiny, tangled pile of fur—and then noticed the faint, shallow rise and fall of her breathing.

A Pause on a Busy Route
Unable to simply walk away from a dog in such a vulnerable state, the driver immediately reached out to Logan’s Legacy 29, a local animal rescue organization.
A volunteer named Rosario Ortiz rushed to the park to intercept the little dog. She gently lifted the fragile Yorkie from the bottom of the cold plastic bin, carefully loading her into a warm car to transport her directly to Camino Pet Hospital.
The transition from being discarded in an open park to being securely held marked the first real shift in her environment.
“When an animal has been made to feel invisible, the simple act of being carefully carried is often their first introduction to safety.”
Uncovering the Source of Her Stillness
At the clinic, the veterinary team examined the dog, who was soon given the name Solene. They estimated her to be around seven or eight years old.
Typically, a Yorkie of that age would still be active, curious, and full of life. Instead, Solene was incredibly solemn, struggling intensely whenever she tried to move even an inch.

X-rays soon revealed the heartbreaking reason behind her immobility: she was suffering from a broken leg. Solene had been quietly enduring the intense pain of a severe physical injury, completely unable to seek help or defend herself while trapped in the basket.
Suzette Hall, the rescue’s founder, noted how exceptionally weak the little dog was, fully aware that Solene had already weathered a tremendous amount of hardship before ever reaching the clinic doors.

A Collective Effort to Heal
Repairing Solene’s leg required a specialized surgery estimated to cost several thousand dollars, presenting a daunting financial hurdle for the rescue team.
However, as Solene’s story began to circulate online, the public’s response was swift and deeply compassionate. Strangers who were moved by her quiet resilience rallied together, quickly raising the $4,000 needed to completely cover her medical care.
Before she was placed under anesthesia, the veterinary staff gently shaved away the heavy, painful mats of fur that had physically weighed her down.
When Solene finally woke up from her procedure, her broken bone had been repaired, and the tangled coat that held her past was completely gone.
Despite the immense pain she had experienced, her rescuers quickly discovered that she possessed an incredibly gentle and affectionate disposition.
Today, Solene is resting safely, waiting to transition into a foster home where she can continue her physical recovery in peace. Hall shared that simply seeing the light slowly return to the little dog’s eyes made every moment of worry entirely worthwhile.

She no longer has to hide silently at the bottom of a laundry basket. Now, all of her energy can be focused on healing in a space where she will always be seen.
“Healing begins the moment a rescued animal realizes they no longer have to endure their pain alone.”
